iPhone Wish List

So I’ve had my iPhone for about two weeks now. It is by far the best phone that I’ve ever owned. There’s something about the touch features that just feel right. It’s very intuitive. The keyboard, though initially was a bit difficult to figure out how to use, is actually very, very smart. Technology columnist Andy Ihnatko, on Macbreak Weekly a few months ago, gave the advice to “just trust it,” and, let me tell you, he was right. If you get anywhere close to what you mean to type, the iPhone gets it right within 90% of the time.

Anyway, as with all pieces of technology, there are alway things you wish that were different or added to it. And so here I shall compile a wish list for features for the iPhone Some of these are things desired by many other people :

1. MMS. It’s a small feature that I didn’t realize I would miss until it was gone. There’s a lot of times that I want to send a picture via text to a friend. There is a way around it using email, but it’s not the same. Native support to attach a picture to a text message would be sweet.

2. Copy-Paste. It is kinda hard to believe that they haven’t included a copy-paste feature in iPhone yet. It’s such a simple thing and everyone wants it and it just makes sense to have. Hopefully they’ll add it to a future software update.

3. Text Message Character Count. For the most part I don’t care about the length of my text messages. Most standard phone carriers allow somewhere around 160 characters, but I haven’t found yet a limit to my text length on iPhones. My real reason for wanting this is Twitter. Twitter has a limit of 140 characters. If you go over, it still posts, but people have to visit the website to get the full message. On my Treo they had a character count so you could see how far along you were. A simple character count would make my life so much easier.

4. To Do List. I’m really missing the To-Do list from my old phone. My life is really busy, especially a this time of year. We have a Retreat coming up in March for the youth program I work with and my list of things to do is gigantic. Really, it’s ridiculous. And I need some kind of task management system in order to help me organize it all. Right now I’m using the Notes feature to keep track of the list, but a app that provides for a checkable list would be very helpful.

Apple is set to release their iPhone SDK sometime this month, so perhaps the awesome third-party developers will create some really great apps that address some of these issues. We’ll have to wait and see.

On this day…
