A Photo a Day

A Photo a DaySo here’s the deal. I was browsing my subscription Flickr photos and came across a gallery by Merlin Mann called “a photo every day.” I thought about the concept and decided to implement it myself for the new year. Being that I don’t have a full time job anymore in hopes of pursuing my other goals and dreams – photography being one – I think I should be active in doing what I can to get my name out there as well as improving my skills. And so “A Photo a Day” was born.

The rules… are there rules?… are simple. I’ll be taking one photo a day and posting it online. The photo must be taken that same day, and you can check that I’m not cheating by looking at the EXIF data associated with the image. Hopefully by the end of the 365 images I will have improved my skill and eye for photography and really learned the in’s and out’s of my new camera – the Canon 400D. Also, I think it will be really cool to make a book of all 365 images in the end to see what I’ve done and where I’ve been as a way to reflect on my year.

I’ve already posted the first image for January 01, 2009. In addition, I’ve registered a new domain, williamhartzphoto.com where you can purchase any image for download or for print. The print sizes get rather large, and can even be put on a framed canvas. Pretty cool. Hopefully I’ll be able to generate a little cash from that site – at least enough to pay for the site itself. I know I won’t make a fortune there, but something would be nice. A small resolution version of image will also be published to my public gallery on Flickr. I’ve even setup a Flickr Group, and a few friends from across the globe (literally) have taken up the same challenge. I’m excited to see what we come up with.

So that’s part of my plan for what I will be doing with my life in 2009. More ideas are being worked out and I’ll post here as they become something more tangible. In the mean time, please go look at some images and comment/critique them.

Grace and peace.

On this day…
