Below is an except from a conversation between myself and an actual student of Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. Names have been erased to protect the innocent… or the indictable… depending on your point of view — in any case, to protect the student from any implications that those in power may seek to use against them . I hear they have a strict codebook.

Me: Do you have to pledge allegiance to Jerry Falwell in addition to the Christian flag while at chapel?
Liberty Student: “We do not pledge to the Christian flag.”
Liberty Student: “…just to Doctor Falwell.”
